Fine Tuning your iPads

Print

Chapter 1. Introduction

Your TouchBistro iPads should only be used to run TouchBistro apps and apps related to our integration partners. We do not recommend using your TouchBistro iPads to run other apps (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.). We strongly discourage you from using music/video streaming apps services on your TouchBistro iPads and your TouchBistro network. These apps can degrade performance and use processing and network resources needed by TouchBistro.

Even if you don’t use these apps, they can still use resources in the background. The standard iOS install likewise has apps that use resources in the background.

This guide will cover how to turn off resources used in the background of a few apps that come with a standard iOS install.

Chapter 2. Turn Off Multitasking

TouchBistro makes use of the left swipe several places to delete or void items.

However, you may, at times, find you over swipe and invoke the multitasking panel.

If you wish to disable this panel from popping up, you can disable multitasking:

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Tap Multitasking & Dock.

3.  Disable Allow Multiple Apps.

4.  Tap General to return.

When disabled, the multitasking panel will no longer be available by swiping from the right-side of the screen.

Chapter 3. Disable FaceTime

If you use FaceTime on a non-TouchBistro iPad and the Apple ID you use for FaceTime is also the Apple ID you have your TouchBistro iPads configured for, we recommend disabling FaceTime on your TouchBistro iPads.

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Scroll down the left panel and tap FaceTime.

3.  Disable FaceTime.

Chapter 4. Disable Messages

Similar to FaceTime, If you use iMessage on a non-TouchBistro iPad and the Apple ID you use for iMessage is also the Apple ID you have your TouchBistro iPads configured for, we recommend disabling iMessage on your TouchBistro iPads.

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Scroll down the left panel and tap Messages.

3.  Disable iMessage.

Chapter 5. Disable News and News Notifications

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Scroll down the left panel and tap News.

3.  Disable Background App Refresh.

4.  Tap Notifications.

5.  Disable Allow Notifications and tap News to return.

Chapter 6. Disable Other Notifications

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Scroll down the left panel and tap Notifications.

3.  You can disable notifications for Calendar, Mail, Photos, Reminders, and Tips. Again this might be important if you’re using these services on one iPad with the Apple ID you’re using all iPads. You may not want all iPads popping up calendar events, email notifications, etc.  Do not turn off App Store notifications, however.

4.  Tap, for example, Calendar.

5.  Disable Allow Notifications and tap Notifications to return. Repeat for the other apps.

Chapter 7. Disable Siri

iOS allows Siri to be always on and listening when your iPad is plugged in, so that it is able to respond when someone says “Hey Siri!”. You can disable Siri and prevent it from accidentally popping up at inopportune moments, as well as consuming processing resources it requires to “listen”.

1.  Tap Settings.

2.  Scroll down the left panel and tap Siri & Search.

3.  Disable Listen for “Hey Siri” and Press home for Siri.

Chapter 8. What You Should Not Turn Off

Do not turn off Location Services in general, as this is used by TouchBistro and certain payment integrations. If Location Services are turned off in general, open Privacy and tap Location Services and turn it back on.

Likewise, in addition to Location, ensure TouchBistro has access to your Contacts (if you want to enable the auto suggestions when starting takeout, delivery, and bar tabs), Photos needs to be set to Read and Write (when you create your menu items, you need access to your photos), and the Camera (used if you want to add menu item images by taking photos of your item, used if you want to use the iPad camera as a barcode scanner, and used by some payment integrations).

Siri and Search can be disabled if desired.

Do not turn off notifications, location services, or access to your iPad’s hardware (camera, microphone, etc.) for the following TouchBistro apps and integration partners:

1. TouchBistro CFD

2. TouchBistro KDS

3. Reports to Go

4. Square

5. Star printer utility apps

6. Teamviewer

7. Airport Utility

8. AmpliFi

9. PayPal
