Creating Customized Floorplans Using Third Party Editors

Print

TouchBistro’s floorplan editor lets you lay out basics like tables, walls, and flooring types. However, you may want to jazz up your floorplan with actual items found in your restaurants like plants, couches, marble counters, and kitchen items like a grill. Although you can’t add fancy furniture and fixtures with the TouchBistro floorplan editor, you can import your own customized background image which you’ve pre-added these items. The TouchBistro Administrator’s guide will walk you through how to add your own custom background as well as the specific dimensions.

1. If you’re not a wizard with Photoshop, there are a number of online floorplan editors that will allow you to create your own floorplans to which you can add plants, furniture, and fixtures.

2. Use a third-party online floorplan editor to create your background and save it as a jpg or png. You might have to open it in an image editor to crop and resize it for the proper TouchBistro dimensions (1024h×768w or 2732h x 2048w for iPad pro).

3. You’ll notice the background image has red bars at the top and bottom. This space will not be visible as you need to leave 64 pixels at the top blank (or 126 pixels for iPad Pro) and 45 pixels at the bottom blank (or 86 pixels for iPad Pro) to account for the app’s top and bottom bars. The table below gives you downloadable images with the area “cropped out” in red. The table also indicates the floor plan image size you need to create for the visible portion.

For example, if you’re using an iPad in portrait mode, download iPad Portrait. in the black area, paste a 960h x 768w image over top.

The landscape images assumes your iPads will be oriented with the Home button to the right. If you intend to use the iPads with the Home button oriented to the left, simply rotate the landscape image 180 degrees.

4. Move the image to your iPad, open TouchBistro, and then import it as a custom background (Admin | Admin Settings | Floorplan).

5. Add your tables, POS, and any needed walls via TouchBistro’s Layout Tools.

5. And there you go. One very nice looking floorplan that will impress customers and your restauranteur comrades.
